About the BookTwice Just to be Sure is the word-playful tale of an optimistic child's reasoning in an unreasonably tumbley world. This silly serious story celebrates music, communication and garden veggies through the eyes of idgie, a child with a knack for contemplation. The book has beautifully artsy art, musicky music, and even a special typeface crafted around the story of name-challenged idgie, who discovers a solution to the "conundrums" of the world. Uncle Pea is us:
Author & composer Joel Pomerantz
Joel spends his time messin' around in museums, editorial rooms, community centers, sand dunes and wayside picnic spots. His messin' missions have one thing in common: slathering folks like you with heaps of usable information. As a natural history educator, Joel cultivates local interest in the connections between urban and natural environments. His nerdy tours project, Thinkwalks, presents San Francisco as a rapidly unfolding boomtown woven into a natural setting, with strands of human foible. Joel has organized award-winning public art after a careerful dance as a community journalist, a phone installer, a chef, a financial planner, a canoe instructor, a dung-shoveler and a housing and job counselor. Twice Just to be Sure is his unhindered foray into meta4iction.
Designer Amy Conger
Amy Conger is an artist, teacher and changemaker living in San Francisco. Her most secret identity is L'Abécédarienne, the mysterious free font designer. Her more obvious manifestations are as an art faculty member and a changework facilitator, whatever that is. On the side, she screens God's answering machine messages; call 415-891-7827 to leave a message.
Illustrator Lance Jackson
As an illustrator, artist and art director, Lance Jackson has been part of the ever-transforming digital mash up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Both his digital and traditional work has been published on a regular basis on the section covers and on the Editorial and Opinion pages of the San Francisco Chronicle. He has completed commissions for clients such as Cisco Systems, Time Magazine, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, Sports Illustrated, MacWorld Expo, Dominican University and Union Bank. His work is included in the collections of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Zyzzyva, Mills College, 2011 Brooklyn Sketchbook Project and other private collections.
